Open Call for Artists: ILLUSTRATION & FASHION

Entry Dates: April 20, 21, 22

Show Dates: April 28 – June 9, 2017

The East End Arts Gallery is pleased to announce an open call for artist participation in the upcoming juried, all media art show, Illustration & Fashion, at the East End Arts Gallery, opening with a reception on Friday, April 28 and running through June 9, 2017The guest juror for this show is Bil Donovan, fashion illustrator and educator. The East End Arts Gallery is located at 133 East Main Street in Riverhead, NY.

East End Arts Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood encourages artists and comments on the theme: “Whether the subject is a toaster, a teapot, a tuxedo, or a trench coat, for this show, line and flair are the most valued skills. (Lighting too if the entry is a photograph.) Admittedly a little commercial – remember, it’s how Andy got his start. The subject needn’t be your creation, but the execution needs to be solidly your style. Adding words to complement your image and design is fine too.”

Original works in all media may be submitted, including: painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, and sculpture; up to three entries can be submitted per artist. All submissions will be reviewed by the guest juror, who will choose a select number of works that he feels best represents the theme, and those pieces will be included in the exhibit.

All media entries must be dropped off in person at the East End Arts Gallery on:

  • Thursday, April 20, 2017from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM;
  • Friday, April 21, 2017from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM; or
  • Saturday, April 22, 2017,from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Guest juror Bil Donovan is an artist, fashion illustrator and educator. Donovan subscribes to the idea that less is more and uses this premise to create work that is elegant with a timeless style. He has had an ongoing relationship with FIT, first, as a student, then advisor, mentor and currently as an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Illustration Department where he teaches Illustration that reflects the contemporary market. Donovan’s lifestyle, environmental and architectural illustrations have been commissioned by many cosmetics firms including Dior and Lancome and his elegant and sophisticated images have been included in many exhibits most recently the Night and Day at the Museum of The Fashion Institute of Technology and highlighted in The Line Of Fashion at the Museum of the Society of American Illustrators. Bil currently resides in the East Village in New York City and works from his creative utopia studio in Tribeca. For more information about the juror, visit

Huntington Arts Council’s Invitational Gallery Shows

Huntington Arts Council‘s Main Street Gallery is embarking on a new schedule of exciting events that promises to include more artists by instituting a new program called Invitational Gallery Shows offering small groups of artists* the entire Main Street Gallery in which to show their work.

Since the gallery accommodates approximately 40 works, depending upon size, a considerable amount of wall space can be devoted to each artist with additional space for sculpture on pedestals. If, for instance, four artists are sharing the space, each one will be able to display approximately 10 works.

Invitational Gallery Shows will have plenty of cache’ with a Fridayevening show-opening reception** and will run for a period of two and a half weeks. You will also have the option of sitting with your show and inviting friends to view it from 12 to 4 pm on two Saturdays. HAC will publicize it through social media and on our website.

Specs are as follows:
2 artists – approx. 20 works per artist – $600 total @ $300 per artist
3 artists – approx. 13 works per artist – $600 total @ $200 per artist
4 artists – approx. 10 works per artist – $600 total @ $150 per artist
Larger established groups will be considered, upon request, on an individual basis based on scheduling availability. The Exhibition Committee will curate all Invitational Gallery Shows in an effort to present optimum artistic balance.

If you would like this opportunity to show your work in an Invitational Gallery Show, just click here to download the form, fill it out, mail it or drop it off with 10 to 15 images of your work on a CD, flash drive or photographs. Do not include any checks at this time. All requests for shows will be reviewed by the Exhibition Committee.

*  Must be a member of HAC or sign on as a member upon acceptance into an Invitational Gallery Show.

**  Refreshments are the responsibility of the artists. If you desire wine, the purchase of wine is the responsibility of the artists and a $36. NYS wine permit (procured by HAC) is also the responsibility of the artists.
