A Celebration of the African American Experience exhibition to celebrate February’s National African American History Month is presented by the Arts Alive LI, Long Island Black Artist Association, Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce and Bloomingdale’s.
ARTIST ELIGIBILITY: Open to Long Island based artists of African American heritage. Works need to range in style from contemporary art to abstract, in muted tones or black and white. Work must be presented in two-dimensional media including painting, drawing, photography and mixed media. All work must be framed and ready to hang securely on a wall, with size ranging from 3′ x 3′ minimum to 10′ x 10′ maximum. Only 30 – 40 pieces will be selected for this exhibition.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Signed Application form emailed or submitted online.
- Up to 8 images
- Images must be 300 dpi jpg format only, no larger than 2MB and named with artist initials and title of work
- Artist bio and short description of entries (must include title of work and sale price)
- Photo portrait of artist in 300 dpi preferred for signage purposes
- No application fee
*Exact dates may vary in February and March due to Bloomingdale’s Furniture design schedule.

COPYRIGHT POLICY: By sharing your images with Long Island Arts Alliance, you confirm that: it is your original work and you own the rights to distribute the image; sharing it with Long Island Arts Alliance and granting a license in respect of its use as set out below will not infringe the copyright or any other rights of any third party. You maintain all other rights to your image.
USE RIGHTS: Artists whose submissions are accepted for exhibition grant Long Island Arts Alliance the right to use their images for the purpose of marketing the exhibition, marketing related programs, and subsequent display on the ArtsAliveLI.org website, unless indicated otherwise.
SALES: Artist wishing to offer their work for sale in the showroom can do so by providing the price of submitted entries. Artist retains 100% of the proceeds from sales of their work.
EXHIBITION DATES AND TIMES: February 5 – March 8, 2017.* There will be a FREE reception for the artists and their guests in the Bloomingdale’s Furniture Gallery TBA.
INSTALLATION INFORMATION: Installation will take place February 3, 2016 from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM ONLY. Artists will be notified of their set-up time. Works should be framed completely, including wires ready for hanging. Works will be delivered and installed by the artist. Bloomingdale’s will not provide insurance for artwork exhibited. Artists are responsible for insuring their works. (Please see Presentation Agreement & Liability)
Removal of Work Dates and Times: All work must be removed between 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM following the closing of the exhibition. Artist will be notified of their removal time (TBA). The artist is responsible for removal of their artwork.
PRESENTATION AGREEMENT and LIABILITY: All entries must be clean, framed and gallery ready. Exhibiting artist(s) must be present and will be required to work with a LIAA and Bloomingdale’s representative to hang, install and de‐install. LIAA and Bloomingdale’s undertake no responsibility for damages to artists’ property due to theft, loss, vandalism or weather. Artist is responsible for installing, packaging, shipping, delivering, removing, pick‐up, and insurance of work(s) during transport to and from and during the exhibition. LIAA and Bloomingdale’s have no responsibility for any damage or loss of artworks during shipping, exhibiting, removing, pick‐up and returning. This is the artist’s responsibility. LIAA and Bloomingdale’s will not provide insurance for artwork exhibited. The artist fully understands that, by this consent, the artist waives any and all claims that may exist in connection with the above.
LIAA and Bloomingdale’s reserve the right to deem artwork inappropriate for this family oriented/public event.
Submission of work for this exhibit constitutes agreement with all terms and conditions stated above. Artist hereby assumes all risk associated with participation with Arts Alive LI exhibit and agrees to hold harmless LIAA and Bloomingdale’s, directors, employees, agents, representatives, counselors, volunteers, et al from and against any and all claims, demands, losses, or liability of any kind or nature that may arise.
