First Annual Free Family Arts Festival
at Museum Row
September 27 from 10 am – 4 pm
March in the Arts Parade at 1 pm
New in 2014, the Free Family Arts Festival at Museum Row in Garden City will launch Long Island’s annual Arts Alive LI OCTOBER ARTS MONTH celebration and feature the Arts Parade, performance stages, an Arts Market, food trucks and giveaways as well as opportunities to “nurture the artist in all of us” through interactive arts experiences.
Festival-goers can attend free mini-workshops, create art pieces and show them off in the Arts Parade at 1 pm. Leading the parade will be the FREE Players Drumline and Color Guard. How about joining the Impromptu Kazoo Band in the Arts Parade? Rehearsal is at noon at Parade Central. You can also help paint the Hangar Five Mural – just find the Long Island Arts Alliance tent and grab a paintbrush. Watch professional artists working in the green spaces by Nunley’s Carousel.
Long Island’s Jen Chapin Trio will be the featured performance on the Main Stage at 3:00 pm. Ten-year old pianist Elton Ha will perform on the Music & Arts Stage earlier in the day. Elton Ha was recently chosen to perform with piano phenom Lang Lang at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at LIU Post on Sunday, October 26. Also appearing on the Music & Arts Stage will be members of the Central Islip Choir.
Other performances include popular youth band Pursuing JC, recent winners of the Audience Choice Award at the Huntington Arts Council’s “Got Talent? Long Island,” and for the youngest audience members – Lena and the Happy Clam Band. Sports enthusiasts can compete for speed at the New York Lizard’s Major League Lacrosse challenge game. Come early – make art, pick up a kazoo – and see what you can do!
The Third Annual Arts Alive LI initiative – including ARTS MONTH and the Free Family Arts Festival – is presented by the Long Island Arts Alliance and Bethpage Federal Credit Union with additional support from Long Island Community Foundation, New York Community Bank Foundation, Bloomingdale’s, Music & Arts, and Empire State Development’s Division of Tourism/I LOVE NEW YORK, through Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Council initiative.
