Description

The saga of “Chrysler’s Chrysler” will be highlighted onSunday, August 2, 2015 at the Long Island Museum in Stony Brook at 2 p.m. Weather permitting, the one-of-a-kind vehicle will make an appearance.  This program is free with regular museum admission.

unnamed-60Howard Kroplick, the Town Historian of North Hempstead will present the history of this “one of one” 1937 Chrysler Imperial C-15 Town Car that was custom built by LeBaron for Walter P. Chrysler as a gift for his wife Della.  Rare photos documenting the 78-year history of the car will be shown including images and films taken at the LeBaron factory, the Long Island Automotive Museum, the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum and the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where it won “First in Class”.

Howard Kroplick, 65, has lived on Long Island for his entire life. He has lectured extensively on the Vanderbilt Cup Races, the Long Island Motor Parkway and the history of the Town of North Hempstead. Howard is president of the Long Island Motor Parkway Preservation Society and has written a number of books on autos and auto racing on Long Island.

In 2008, Howard founded and created the website VanderbiltCupRaces.com which has since won numerous awards for car sites and car culture.  In 2012, Howard was appointed Town Historian of North Hempstead and a member of the town’s Historic Landmark Preservation Commission, the same year in which he purchased the 1937 Chrysler Imperial C-15 Town Car at an auction at the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum.  He’ll bring the car to the museum on the day of the program, weather permitting, where visitors will catch an up-close glance at this fine automobile.

The museum is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5.  Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $5 for students 6 – 17 and college students with I.D.
