PARRISH ART MUSEUM PRESENTS SUNSET OUTDOOR SCREENING OF BRUCE BROWN’S SEMINAL SURF MOVIE THE ENDLESS SUMMERFRIDAY, JULY 24

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of  Bruce Brown’s seminal globetrotting surf movieThe Endless Summer, the Parrish Art Museum will present a special outdoor screening of the film in collaboration with the Surfing Heritage & Cultural Center, Montauk Surf Museum, and Pilgrim Surf + Supply. The program, on Friday, July 24, begins with live music by the New York City-based band Gent Treadly at 7pm followed by the screening at approximately8:30pm.

The Endless Summer, released in 1966, is considered to be the masterpiece of documentary endless summerfilmmaker and surfer Bruce Brown. The film follows surfers Michael Hynson and Robert August on an around-the-world surfing adventure—from their California home to Hawaii, Australia, South Africa, and other secluded surfing spots in a search for what Brown calls “The Perfect Wave.”  The film, narrated by Brown, features a twangy, guitar-driven instrumental soundtrack by The Sandals.

Setting the tone for the evening, the band Gent Treadly will play classic surf tunes. Founded by bassist Greg Koerner in 1994 Gent Treadly has featured leading New York musicians including Grateful Dead keyboardists Vince Welnick and ,  of the Neville Brothers Band, and  of The Band. The band currently features Zac Lasher (keyboards) and Kevin Griffin (guitar) of U-Melt; Gregg Sulzer (drums), as well as Koerner on bass.

The Endless Summer is co-presented with the Montauk Surf Museum, Montauk, NY, a new organization devoted to the art and history of surfing, and The Surfing Heritage & Culture Center, San Clemente, CA, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, presenting and promoting surfing’s heritage for the appreciation and education of current and future generations.

Just before the screening, the Parrish will be presented with a check from Sabrosa Mexican Grill in Water Mill. Every month, Sabrosa selects a local institution to be the recipient of a donation based on a matching gift program. Sabrosa owner and Water Mill resident Jay Andreassi chose the Parrish as the benefactor for the month of June. “I am familiar with the work that the Parrish does and their great following by locals and visitors alike,” he said.
