East End Disability Associates (EEDA) is proud to announce its latest full-scale musical theatre production of The Wizard of Oz, performing at Gateway Playhouse on April 21 at 7pm & 23 at 2pm. Based on the beloved 1939 movie musical featuring iconic songs such as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and “We’re Off to See The Wizard”, The Wizard of Oz will be performed by the talented participants of EEDA’s Creative Arts Program.  Technical support, including professional lighting design and set pieces, will be provided by The Gateway, Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County.
 
EEDA’s Creative Arts Program, or CAP, is a day program that teaches life skills to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through the creative and performing arts.  CAP began collaborating with The Gateway, Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County in 2013 by way of rehearsal studio space along with technical and artistic advisory support.  This unique partnership has resulted in two other full-scale productions, inclusive acting classes, and specialty acting classes for students with disabilities who need intensive supports.  The Wizard of Oz, with its large 32-person cast and lavish production numbers including “Ding-Dong the Witch is Dead!” and “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” is our most ambitious project yet. This year, the cast will be supported by a children’s chorus comprised of students from The Gateway School for The Performing Arts which includes young adults and children from all over the island.
