Walt Whitman Birthplace Association (WWBA) collaborates with CUNY for their “Americas Poetry Festival of NY”, an international multi-lingual Poetry Festival which draws poets from South America, originally, and this year from all over the world, including Estonia, Rumania, and Spain. Poetry is read in Spanish or their native language. This is the third year WWBA has collaborated with CUNY. We host one of their four Festival days here at our historic site. Poets travel to us from NYC where they are staying. Over 20 poets read their poem in Spanish or their native language, with an English translation. A Spanish teacher from Deer Park High School brings his Spanish class of 40 students to the event. The event is free and open to the public. A tour of the historic Birthplace, where Walt Whitman was born in1819, is available.
