Basing his compositions and artistic sensibilities of the old masters’ still lifes, Harold Naideau combines his image making with modern elements, photographic methods and printing techniques to produce his works. Using contemporary direct-to-substrate printing technology, Naideau’s digital images are printed directly to birch and maple woods. This technique allows the grain of the wood to show through, creating a unique textural and patterned blend with the image’s structure.

Please stop by and help the drive by donating one or two new items during the opening reception or during the open hours of the exhibit. Juror Barbara Jaffe, head of the photography program at Hofstra University, selected 60 works out of more than 581 entries in the exhibit, singling out four artists to share the distinction of Awards of Excellence and five to share Honorable Mentions.

For thousands of years, Native peoples around the world have learned to use natural resources for food, clothing, shelter and tools. Across North America, Native Americans used clay to create a style of pottery known as pinch pots, traditionally used for cooking and storage. Join us as we celebrate Native Voices by creating your own multi-colored clay pinch pot!

All ages.  Free with museum admission.

Traveling Exhibit: Native Voices: New England Tribal Families

Now through  January 4, 2015

Explore five thriving New England communities as they work to balance cultural traditions with life in a modern world.  The hands-on exhibit takes visitors through four New England seasons and shares stories, songs, and cultural materials that illustrate strong and enduring connections between tribes and their traditional homelands.

Be the first to toboggan down a winter hill, learn about daily life at the Nuweetooun Tribal School, experience the sights and sounds of Pow Wow and explore a natural cranberry bog on Martha’s Vineyard!  Experience these activities and many more in the new exhibit Native Voices.
