Anything But Silent: Classics with Live Organ Accompaniment
A PAGE OF MADNESS (1926)
This virtuoso Japanese silent film, made in 1926, was lost, then found in 1971. It uses no title-boards, so the story is uninterrupted — an unusual technique in the silent era. Indeed, except for the absence of dialogue, reviewers agree that this classic movie has a very modern look and “feel.” The story of a retired sailor who has taken a job as a janitor in a lunatic asylum to look after his insane wife, A Page of Madness is a stunning invocation of the world as viewed by the mentally ill. Screens with accompaniment by Ben Model on the Cinema’s Miditzer Theater Organ.
