Description

Peter Beston…

Moonlight on the Ibis

studied art at Croydon College of Art and Hampstead School of Art in London, and at West Dean College in Sussex, England. For many years he worked internationally as an award-winning film editor, cutting features, documentaries, and commercials.

He now paints full-time, having settled on the East End, where he finds the light and landscape a constant source of inspiration. One consequence of developing story-telling skills during his career in film is that many of his paintings are instilled with a sense of narrative. His work utilizes choice and intensity of color, along with precise composition, to lead the observer towards new insights into the familiar.

Peter’s work has been exhibited in group shows at the East End Arts Gallery, and The Quogue Library. In the fall of 2014 he had a solo exhibition at the Rosalie Dimon Gallery in Jamesport, and in July 2015 he has a solo exhibition, entitled Daylight & Darkness, opening at the Remsenburg Academy.

The paintings in this exhibition explore the relationships and intersections between the natural and man-made worlds, and how darkness and light can mask or reveal forms and ideas that arise out of this process.

Peter’s paintings are in private collections on Long Island, and in Florida, New York, and Canada. He has also had work published on the cover of Dan’s Papers.  Visit to see a wide selection of his work.
